Logroño can be explored entirely on foot. A full weekend without a car leaves plenty of time for the old town, the food and a short escape into wine country without leaving the city much.
Day 1: old town and Laurel street
The morning is given to the old town: La Redonda Co-Cathedral, the church of Santiago el Real — a stop on the Camino de Santiago — and a quiet stroll through streets that still keep their medieval layout. In the afternoon and evening, Laurel street and San Juan street concentrate dozens of pintxo bars, each specialising in one or two dishes: the classic plan is to go from bar to bar, not to sit in just one.

Day 2: a short escape without leaving the city much
Rioja Alavesa begins less than half an hour from the centre of Logroño. A morning in Laguardia — a walled, pedestrian village — or in Elciego, with the contemporary architecture of its best-known winery, completes the weekend without needing to stay outside the city or to drive after a tasting.
A weekend in Logroño needs no car for anything, except if the second day includes a winery and the plan is to taste without worrying about the way back.
What to bring and what to bear in mind
- Comfortable shoes: the tapas plan is done standing and walking, not sitting.
- Many bars on Laurel street close one day during the week; it is worth checking if the trip is not at the weekend.
- If the second day includes a winery, book the visit in advance — almost none admit turning up without an appointment.
In short
One day for the city, one day for wine half an hour away. It is the itinerary most repeated among those who visit Logroño for the first time with little time.
